Guillaume de Nogaret (1260 - 1314)

Guillaume de Nogaret's father was from Toulouse and was condemned as a heretic during the Albigensian Crusade. Committed to the service of King Philippe IV in Paris at the end of 1295, Nogaret joined certain institutions at the same time, the Parliament and the King's Council. His responsibilities increased from the turn of the century. He is known for two important religious affairs:the Anagni attack and the fall of the Templars. In Anagni, he tries to take the pope to Lyon, some say he even slapped the sovereign pontiff. In 1307, he led the police raid against the Templars, he died some time after the execution of the Grand Master (curse?).
