Spicy Chocolate:an Exquisite Recipe of the Aztecs

If there is a reason why we inhabitants of the Old Continent must be grateful to Christopher Columbus and to his overseas shipments, this is undoubtedly the cocoa.

This wonder of nature was imported from the discovered lands, allowing us to learn about the delicious flavor of chocolate.

The pre-Columbian civilizations they had habitually consumed this goodness for centuries.

The Aztecs, in particular, they developed the recipe to prepare a spicy chocolate after having stolen its secrets, it seems, from the Maya.

To the perfectly ground cocoa beans, spices, yellow flour and a good quantity of chilli, were added. until a powder was obtained with perfectly mixed ingredients, onto which cold water was finally poured.

It was mixed until a soft foam was obtained:the spicy chocolate was ready to be tasted.
