The first wooden “seat” for latrines was found in England

The wooden “seat” found in Vindolanda in England

In the ancient and interesting castrum Roman of Vindolanda, in England, a team of archaeologists has recently found a wooden tablet with a hole in the center that was used as a “ seat” in the latrines .

All such seats found so far were in marble and stone, materials that in an already climatically cold location, it was probably decided to replace with something more "warm" and comfortable.

The object dates back to the 2nd century AD, it is well preserved and finely worked.

Now we expect to find other things inside the latrine, including the spongia, a soft sponge at the time used as "toilet paper".
