Historical story

Childhood of Lucrezia Borgia:where and how did the Pope's daughter grow up?

Lucrezia Borgia in the TV series "I Borgia". Lucrezia Borgia's childhood was, as far as we know, rather peaceful

How was the childhood of Lucrezia Borgia , one of the most talked about (and slandered?) women in history?

This beautiful blonde girl destined to wreak havoc in the sacred palaces of the Vatican, was born in 1480 in Subiaco, near Rome, by Cardinal Rodrigo Borgia and Vannozza Cattanei , a woman of Lombard origin who has lived in the Eternal City for many years.

He, grandson of Callisto III , became the infamous Pope Alexander VI in 1492, while she, her historical lover, took care of the management of inns also frequented by prostitutes.

Lucrezia's family was certainly not of a traditional type:in practice, the girl was the illegitimate daughter of a pope full of lovers and she was not even the only one.

It is impossible to establish with certainty how many children Rodrigo had, but from Vannozza he had four in all:in addition to the only female, there were Giovanni, Cesare and Goffredo.

The woman also, despite the unorthodox relationship with the prelate, married several times.

But what do we know about Lucrezia Borgia's childhood?

Not much actually, but it seems that she has little left with her mother.

Still very young, the girl was entrusted to the care of Adriana Mila Orsini , relative of the bulky father.

The woman took care of it with affection and care, her education was flawless.

Among other things, Lucrezia learned her native language, Spanish, since the family was originally from Jàtiva, near Valencia (the real surname was in fact Borja ).

The very young Lucrezia was very attracted to those distant lands and dreamed of moving there one day, but her relatives chose a different path for her.

Intelligent, beautiful and cultured, she became the perfect pawn to be moved at will in the political chessboard of the time, indulging the insatiable desire for power of her family.
