Anita Garibaldi - The birth of a heroine VerbaVolant editions , Pp. 62 black and white, 12 euros. From November 17th in bookstores Ages 10 and up

A young woman of humble birth, married to her in spite of her with a slack shoemaker, on the outskirts of a Brazilian empire in full turmoil. This is Ana Maria de Jesus Ribeiro da Silva , but it is not with this name that she will go down in history:after meeting with Giuseppe Garibaldi, Italian leader in exile, with whom she shares ideals and temperament and at whose side she will live and fight until her death, she will be renamed Anita by him. This comic traces its origins, from childhood to the first exploits with Garibaldi during the Guerra dos Farrapos in the state of Rio Grande Do Sul, in action by sea and by land like a Salgarian heroine ante litteram .

Custòdio, a Paulistan cartoonist, whose family tree is rooted in Laguna, like that of Anita, outlines its features with wit and humor, while retracing the lesser known facts of the life of one of the most studied and celebrated characters of the Italian Risorgimento, the whose paths would undoubtedly have been different if they had not crossed those of Anita, "the heroine of two worlds". Custòdio will be present on Friday 9 December at Più Libri Più Liberi where Anita Garibaldi will hold the workshop-meeting.
