Cerro de la Merced:Iberian Andalusia comes to light in Cabra

These days, one more summer, the excavation campaign Cerro de la Merced de Cabra is being carried out; an archaeological site that contains an important Iberian palace, a reflection of the splendor of the city in pre-Roman times. Directs the excavation Fernando Quesada , from the Autonomous University of Madrid, who, in addition to being a regular contributor to Desperta Ferro, is a member of the editorial board of Antigua y Medieval , from Contemporary and Archeology and History . Our director of Desperta Ferro Antigua y Medieval, Eduardo Kavanagh also works on the excavation. .

The Cordovan town has been working for four years on an archaeological site that contains an important Iberian palace. According to Fernando Quesada, It is a building from the time when Rome was settling in the Subbética, an area still dominated by the Iberians. The palace belonged to an Iberian nobleman who had good relations with the Empire. The Director of the excavations highlights the monumentality of its construction and its good state of conservation. After these four years of work, according to Fernando Quesada, the next step is to value the findings found in the excavations and make them known. The deposit is located in what is known as Cerro de la Merced . The City Council of the Cordoba town of Cabra, aware of the magnitude and level of the discovery, will shortly proceed to the exhibition of the Iberian and Roman objects found in the area.

Below you can listen to the interview with Fernando Quesada in the program In the land of Edén , in Local Wave Andalusia, in which he explains to us what the findings that have been made during the excavation campaigns consist of.
