Oldest evidence of a decapitation in the Americas

Here in Brazil, in Lapa do Santo (MG), the oldest decapitation record was found. of the Americas. The 9,000-year-old bone is characterized by containing a skull, jaw, some vertebrae and two severed hands from an adult male.

The condition of the remains indicates that the disposal of the human parts was a ritual and archaeologists consider the individual to be a member of the group. The ritual should be part of the mortuary treatments used by the primitive community that inhabited the region.
There are indications that the severed head was not separated from the body by a cut, but through the act of twisting and pull until decapitation occurs. This conclusion is due to the fact that among the group, sharp instruments were not used, much less produced by metals.
