The positivist tradition of History, or the Positivist History of the 19th century, had an understanding of the historical document that was necessarily limited to the written document. In this way, most of the remains, such as rock art and polished and chipped stone tools, used in the understanding of the prehistoric period were not taken into account. Only Archeology had an effective interest in this field of study.
