(UFPE) Some historians claim that History began when humanity invented writing. From this perspective, the period prior to the creation of writing is called Prehistory. On this subject, mark the correct alternative.

The positivist tradition of History, or the Positivist History of the 19th century, had an understanding of the historical document that was necessarily limited to the written document. In this way, most of the remains, such as rock art and polished and chipped stone tools, used in the understanding of the prehistoric period were not taken into account. Only Archeology had an effective interest in this field of study.

The agricultural revolution, which characterized the Neolithic period, also provided prehistoric man with the improvement of the techniques used in rock art, as well as the techniques used in agriculture that supported this revolution.

In the prehistoric period, there was no technique of realistic portraits and, neither, intercontinental contact via trade or the development of cities, such as the Greek polis. What, in short, the cave paintings described were the hunting scenes (which were part of the daily life of primitive man), the various rituals – from sacrifice to sexual rituals – and astronomical symbolization.

The Serra da Capivara National Park, located in São Raimundo Nonato, was founded in 1973, as a result of the efforts of archaeologist Niéde Guidon. This park is considered one of the most important in the world because it contains, in addition to the collection of cave paintings, examples of ceramics, funerary urns, ossuaries and tools made of chipped and polished stone.
