The 385 assassination attempts against Fidel Castro

It was December 16, 2011, when Cuban leader Fidel Castro earned a place in the Guinness Book of Records as the person with the most assassination attempts on him.

According to SanSimera, from 1959, when he overthrew the dictator Batista, to 2006, when he handed over power to his brother, Raúl, he was targeted 368 times.

Cuban revolutionary and politician, Fidel Castro, was born in Birán, Oriente, and studied law at the University of Havana. For some years he practiced the profession of lawyer.

As a student, he became involved in the revolutionary movements against the Batista dictatorship. In the uprising of Santiago (July 26, 1953) he was one of the leaders of the attack against the military camps, but he was arrested and sentenced to 15 years in prison. In 1955 he was amnestied and fled to the USA. There he tried to initiate the exiled Cubans into the revolution.

But the American government reacted, so Castro fled to Mexico. From there, with a few men, he landed in Cuba (December 2, 1956) and climbed the mountains.

The revolutionary movement reached great proportions and the rebels, after many successes, occupied the capital Havana on January 1, 1959. Batista escaped from Cuba and Fidel Castro (1959) took over as Prime Minister, a position he held until 1976.

He then ruled as president from 1976 to 2008. He also served as the first secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba from 1965 to 2011.

The Cuban leader on February 19, 2008, after half a century at the helm of Cuba, announced his final resignation.

He passed away at the age of 90, on November 25, 2016.
