Conference:Houses of Nice 100 Years Later

A conference on the management of the housing stock of Nice is organized by the local Municipality on Wednesday at 18:00.

The built landscape of Nice is inextricably linked to the residential settlement of Asia Minor refugees in the area, through state mechanisms and self-housing tactics. Many of the refugee houses of Nice, which survive to this day, vary in typology and building condition.

Wednesday's meeting is a trigger for a public dialogue on the need to protect the Refugee Residential Identity of Nice and a further investigation of the reasons and methods of approach. Academics, historians, anthropologists, architects, as well as state and self-governing bodies will present their proposals and a discussion will follow based on the following topics:

past

Brief historical review of the settlement of refugees in the area.

What is the refugee residential identity of Nice and how has it been shaped socially over time? What can we learn from the past?

present

Analysis of the current state of the refugee housing landscape, their typologies, transformations and habitability. What are the main challenges and what are the opportunities for their conservation and regeneration? What can we learn from other examples of cases of approaching refugee settlements in Attica?

future

On the basis of themes A and B, the third theme will determine the possible urban planning methodologies and approaches of the refugee settlement of Nice, taking into account issues of ownership, habitability, expropriations, characterization and financing programs.
