St. Francis:his Diseases

St. Francis of Assisi

St. Francis of Assisi, one of the most significant religious, poet and personalities of our Middle Ages, he suffered in life from many ailments, that ended up undermining his body, but never the Faith and the incredible spiritual temper that distinguished him and permeated his entire existence.

The Saint contracted malaria and tuberculosis and had liver, spleen and stomach problems , which was later joined by serious eye disorders of uncertain origin, although most historians believe that they depended on the so-called "Egyptian disease" , widespread in the lands bathed by the Nile, where the Umbrian mystic traveled between 1219 and 1220.
