From 332 to 30 BC. J.-C.:From the Greeks to the Romans, Cleopatra

IN 332 BC

Greek King Alexander the Great conquers Egypt:

The Greek king Alexander the Great drives the Persians out of their territory, and the Egyptians welcome him with joy. Alexander founds the city of Alexandria which becomes the new capital of the country and the seat of learning, culture and commerce.

IN 323 BC

Ptolemy appropriates Egypt:

On the death of Alexander the Great, his generals divided up his empire and Ptolemy appropriated Egypt . He and his family ruled for 300 years and founded the Ptolemaic dynasty . In order to ensure the loyalty of the people, they support ancestral Egyptian traditions, but despite their efforts they are contested by the Egyptians and the situation becomes particularly unstable.

IN 47 B.C. AD

Julius Caesar besieges Alexandria in Egypt:

The Roman Julius Caesar then places Cleopatra VII on the throne who gives him a son, Caesarion.

IN 30 BC

Egypt is attacked by the Romans:

Octave, the nephew of Julius Caesar, is proclaimed Emperor of Rome under the name of Augustus. He makes the son of Cleopatra disappear (last Ptolemy ruler of Egypt), last legitimate heir to the throne. Cleopatra commits suicide in Alexandria, Egypt becomes the granary of Rome and is attached to the Roman Empire which makes it a province.
