History of Europe

If politicians read more history

Lately we are being bombarded with state pacts, economic proposals, trial balloons, miracle recipes... As I believe that no one with any power in this country reads this post, I am going to allow myself to launch a piece of advice/recommendation:

When you don't have solutions for certain problems, like this damn economic crisis, think that in history, for better or for worse, similar or worse situations have already occurred. Look for what others did – especially the privileged minds of other times – and determine if it can be applied to current problems.

And here we have the Roman scholar Marcus Tullius Cicero that, in the year 55 BC ., said:

The budget must be balanced, the Treasury must be replenished, the public debt must be reduced, the arrogance of politicians must be moderated and controlled, and aid to the provinces (countries) it must be controlled or eliminated so that Rome does not go bankrupt. People must learn to work again, instead of living at the expense of the State.

Nothing new under the sun.
