I believed, innocent of me, that the Order of the Poor Knights of Christ (Knights Templar or Order of the Temple ) had been dissolved by the Pope
Clement V, pressured by Philip IV of France, accusing them of heresy and sodomy. The last grand master, Jacques de Molay, and several knights were tortured until they confessed their guilt. If we go into considerations about the process (false, manipulated and directed), in 1312 the Order disappears (in other countries its dissolution was slower and less radical). What is my surprise when I read this news:
The Sovereign Order of the Temple of Christ Association, which claims to be the heir to the mythical Templars, has filed a lawsuit against the Pope, demanding the reinstatement of the order, suspended by Clement V in 1307, as well as recognition of its assets seized, valued at 100 billion euros in 2008.
The lawsuit, filed in the Madrid Courts against Benedict XVI through the Apostolic Nunciature in Spain, requests the review of the process that ended with the suspension of the Templar order 700 years ago.
The complaint, formulated against the physical person of the Pope as successor of Clement V, and not as head of the Vatican State, makes it clear that the current Templars do not want the patrimonial restitution of what was looted in the fourteenth century, which would currently reach the 100,000 million euros. "We do not intend in any case to produce the economic bankruptcy of the Roman Church", adds the letter, "but that the court can get an idea of the magnitude of the operation plotted against our Order".
According to the Sovereign Order of the Temple of Christ Association, legally registered in the register of associations, the Templars had a census of 9,000 properties throughout Europe, not counting the rights to land, pastures, mills and port rights, including transport and warships.
Luckily they do not ask for financial restitution because it would be the ruin of the Church. John Paul II already asked forgiveness for all the sins committed by Catholics and the atrocities committed in his name.
I have several questions:
- What are the reasons for this Association to proclaim itself heir to the Order of the Templars?
- What are they after with this lawsuit?
- Will we review all the processes, injustices and irregularities of our history? Luckily now crimes prescribe, otherwise the legal insecurity would be terrible.
- And the atrocities committed against the Church?, etc.
Dignity and honor (qualities of the Knights of the Temple) are values that are conspicuous by their absence in this world. So, stop fooling around and if they really believe they are the heirs of such noble gentlemen, their way of acting says little in their favor, follow their rules:
