History of Europe

Would you go to the doctor in the Middle Ages?

There are many people, among whom I include myself, that the act of going to the doctor supposes a superhuman effort. I have never liked the smell of hospitals and health centers, it makes me a little nervous. I admit that it is stupid, but if we look back to the Middle Ages, we will understand that the nervousness of the patients was more than justified in the face of the different treatments they had to face:

  • Hemorrhoids (enema version) :

  • Hemorrhoids (cautery version with red-hot iron) :

  • Cataracts :

  • Insanity (straight to the problem) :

  • Bleeding (universal remedy) :

  • Bladder obstruction :

  • Caesarean section :

  • Dentist :

  • Amputation: :

  • Operating room: :

In the Middle Ages, fear of doctors was justified, right?
