The oldest is the city of Troy, founded around 3,500 BC. New discoveries

The ancient city of Troy, on the northwest coast of Asia Minor, seems to be 6 centuries older. Specifically, the Turkish archaeologist Rüstem Aslan, a professor at the Canakale Onsekiz Mart University (ÇOMU) reports that the legendary, ancient city of Troy was destroyed many times by wars, fires and earthquakes.

In the almost 160 years of excavations, which began in 1870 by the archaeologist Errico Schliemann, 10 levels of settlements had been discovered. This year, another level was discovered, dating back at least 600 years before the first habitation level in Troy. "We discovered traces of fire, pottery and wooden stakes in level 'Troy 0,'" Professor Aslan said. "These are remains of great importance for the founding history of Troy," said the archaeologist.

"All these findings show that the history of the settlement goes back 5,500 years from our present time," said Mr. Aslan. As reported by the Turkish newspaper Daily Sabah, according to the professor, "Troy was most likely founded around 3,500 BC, as indicated by the settlement level 0 we discovered."

Earlier, findings indicated that Troy has a history dating back to 3,000 BC, from Ancient Greece to the Byzantine era. Let us remind you that the historical site of the Greek Trojan War, where Ancient Greek warriors besieged the city of Troy around 13 BC. century was immortalized by the epic poet Homer, in the epic Iliad.
