Myrmidons

Ancient tribe of Thessaly, descendant of Aeaque, son of Zeus and Aegina.

The Myrmidons (in ancient Greek Myrmidónes) are a mythical people of Greece.

They are created by Zeus from ants (μύρμηξ / mýrmex means “ant”) to repopulate the island of Aegina where his son, Aeacus, was born (this island had indeed been ravaged by a plague due to Hera). Under the leadership of his son, Peleus, they then emigrated to southern Thessaly. They participate in the Trojan War under the orders of Achilles.
