Edward II

Born in Caernarvon, 1284 - Died in Berkeley, Gloucestershire, 1327.

King of England from 1307 to 1327.

Son of Edward I and son-in-law of Philippe IV le Bel, he let his favourites, Hugh le Despenser and his son, govern. His reign was marked by a sharp decline in royal power and the loss of Scotland (1314). Edward was to be deposed following a revolt of the barons sparked by his own wife, Isabelle of France. She had him assassinated shortly afterwards.
