General Condition

Chedi (abandoned) beside the market is an abandoned ancient site located next to the municipal fresh market in Wiang Kuk Subdistrict. in the municipality of Wiang Kuk Subdistrict On the south side of Kaeo Worawut Road (Highway No. 242), about 450 meters south of the Mekong River, 300 meters south of the Cook Canal.

The ground around the pagoda has a trench that has been excavated until it is a deep hole from the current ground. making it a pond in the rainy season Barbed wire fences are fenced around the excavation pits and ancient sites.

The area surrounding the archaeological site is a large and dense community. The condition of the area is a plain along the Mekong River caused by the deposition of sediments.

Chedi (deserted) beside the market, located in the ancient city of Wiang Khuk. There is no history or legend that mentions this pagoda. But from the shape of the pagoda, Master Thawat Punnotok mentioned in the Isan stone inscription in the Thai-Laos period that “…. Lung (urn) put the ashes of a senior monk which is usually made of wood This relic is a replica of a local art form of Lung….”

The archaeological site is a bell-top castle-shaped chedi. square base Size 5.5 meters wide on each side, 8 meters high, bricks and mortar. The base consists of six square bases, supported by twenty wooden indented cornice bases, at the bottom of which are stretched high and two plexiglass lines. Above is a set of bases to support the bell which is a low octagonal bell-shaped chedi. with a tall cone It is decorated with eight stucco lotus petals and round glass beads. The top tier is broken.

The bell body should have been repaired. Originally, it was probably the base that supported the bell in the circular chart. It is assumed that it was built around the 22nd-23rd Buddhist century during the Lan Xang cultural period (Praphat Chuwichian 2014).

From the history of excavation to enhance the stability of the Fine Arts Department in 2004 found a round-bottomed pot-shaped container containing a Buddha image covered in gold. and a jar, a jar, a bronze casket containing a bone A sandstone parapet was also found on the north side of the chedi. Only a small part of the bottom was left. but also notice the sculpture of a replica of a stupa or a cauldron in the style of a sema leaf in the Dvaravati culture in the northeastern region.
