EGYPT. At the launch of the Scan Pyramids mission, the surprise Tutankhamun

The Egyptian Minister of Antiquities announces that the HIP institute and the faculty of engineers in Cairo will organize the infrared thermography campaign in the tomb of Tutankhamen. Enough to check if it also contains Nefertiti's burial chamber... Reconstructed image of Tutankhamun at age 19.

TUTANKHAMUN. This is the last surprise of the press conference, which was held this morning for the launch of the Scan Pyramids mission. After the interventions of the various specialists and scientists, the Egyptian Minister of Antiquities, Mamdouh Eldamaty, announced that he had entrusted the faculty of engineers of Cairo and the HIP Institute with the task of organizing an infrared thermography campaign at the inside the tomb of Tutankhamun, in the Valley of the Kings.

The British archaeologist Nicholas Reeves thinks that it could conceal two secret doors, plastered then covered with frescoes, one on the west side, the other on the north side of the room where the sarcophagus of the little pharaoh was discovered. These doors would conceal, according to him, the burial chamber of Queen Nefertiti. The tomb would have been built for the queen, before being reused due to the premature death of the little king. A hypothesis that the Minister does not share.

Scan Pyramids technologies will be able to study the hypothesis of Nicholas Reeves in the tomb of Tutankhamun

During November 2015, Nicholas Reeves should attempt to verify the presence of this hidden chamber using radar. Infrared thermography, a technology which makes it possible to detect the differences in temperature inside a monument, and therefore any voids, will be used in the same spirit as that which prevails for the Scan Pyramids mission. Once the results are obtained, it will be up to Egyptologists to interpret them. "When you start using these technologies, it's endless, concluded Mamdouh Eldamaty. We will use them for the pyramids, for the burial of Tutankhamun, and if we validate them, for many other monuments!"
