"Mythologies are powerful answers to the essential questions that plague humanity". For the philosopher Luc Ferry, former member of the National Consultative Ethics Committee between 2009 and 2013, myths are far from being infantile or even irrational stories. On the contrary, they turn out to be constructions of extraordinary depth, which can sometimes make it possible to think about science. This is what he explains in an interview with Sciences et Avenir , to read in the "Myths and legends" issue of the special issue, dated July-August 2017. We invite you to find several video extracts. He notably evokes here the attempts of some to find mythical sites such as Troy or Atlantis, companies doomed to failure according to the former minister of Jacques Chirac. "Nobody knows if the Trojan War took place! To try to prove it, like to discover the site of Atlantis, is to prove that one has understood nothing of the Greek myths, which are constructions extremely powerful logico-metaphysical" .

"Primitive societies are just as sophisticated in organization as traditional societies"

"The central problem of the epic of Gilgamesh:the relationship between love and death"

"Did the Trojan War take place? No one knows!"
