Which stone is used in sanchi stupa?

Sanchi Stupa is carved into a hill of monolithic rocks in Sanchi, India. This hill is mainly made of sandstone, making it the main stone used in the construction of Sanchi Stupa. Sandstone is widely available in the region and was extensively used due to its workability and ease of carving. However, the stone also contains some iron that oxidizes and darkens its color over time, especially when exposed to moisture. Therefore, some parts of the Sanchi Stupa appear darker due to this natural oxidation process.
