When were red and yellow ochre discovered?

The first known use of red and yellow ochre as pigments dates back to the Middle Stone Age, around 100,000 to 50,000 years ago. These natural pigments were widely used by prehistoric humans for various purposes, including body decoration, cave paintings, and utilitarian objects. Ochres are essentially naturally occurring clays or earths that contain iron oxides, giving them their distinctive red or yellow colors. They have been found in various regions around the world and have been used consistently throughout human history.
