Why did Pedro Alvares Cabral explore?

* Economic reasons: Portugal was looking for new trade routes to Asia, particularly for spices. Cabral's voyage was part of this effort to find a sea route to India.

* Political reasons: Portugal was interested in expanding its empire and establishing a presence in the East Indies. Cabral's voyage was part of this effort to assert Portuguese power and control in the region.

* Religious reasons: Portugal was a Catholic country, and Cabral's voyage was also motivated by a desire to spread Christianity in the East Indies.
