How do people get into the Carlsbad Cavern?

There are two ways to get into Carlsbad Caverns National Park:

1. Natural Entrance: The main entrance to Carlsbad Caverns is through the natural opening located on the side of a mountain. The entrance is about 750 feet (229 m) above the floor of the cave and can be accessed by a steep and winding trail or by taking an elevator.

2. Rattlesnake Springs Entrance: This entrance is located about 1 mile (1.6 km) from the natural entrance and is primarily used by scientists and cavers. It is a vertical entrance that requires rappelling gear and caving experience to access.
