What explorer discovered the bering strait?

The Bering Strait is a strait located between the Seward Peninsula of Alaska in the United States and the Chukchi Peninsula of Russia. It is named after the Danish explorer Vitus Bering, who discovered it in 1728. Bering was a captain in the Russian Navy and was on a mission to explore the Arctic Ocean. He and his crew sailed through the strait and into the Pacific Ocean, becoming the first Europeans to do so.
