Where does the stone age get its name from?

The Stone Age got its name from the primary material humans used to make most of their tools: stones. During this prehistoric era, human beings largely relied on chipped, flaked, or polished stones due to their strength, availability, and ability to hold a durable edge when shaped correctly. These stone tools were crafted with precision for hunting, foraging, building settlements, creating art, and various everyday tasks. As a result, archaeologists use the presence and types of stone tools to define and delineate cultural periods within the Stone Age, which include the Paleolithic, Mesolithic, and Neolithic Ages.
