Apprentice
- Young person learning to do something, usually a craft or trade, from a skilled employer.
- Historically a formal arrangement, often lasting several years, in which an apprentice would live with and work for their master, learning the skills and knowledge necessary to practice the trade.
- Today is less formal and may involve apprentices working for a skilled professional on a part-time basis while attending school or college.
- Many trades and professions still have apprenticeship programs although the modern apprentice experience is quite different from the original.
Master Artisan
- Experienced craftsperson or tradesman considered exceptionally skilled in their craft or trade.
- Often passed on their knowledge and skills to apprentices through the apprenticeship system.
