Where did the surname korstad originate?

Korstad is a Norwegian surname that originated from the farm name Korstad in the municipalities of Åmot, Elverum, Tynset, and Åsnes. The name comes from the Old Norse word "kortr" which means "short" and "staðr" which means "place" or "farm". The name is therefore thought to mean "the farm on the short land" or "the farm with a short distance to the water". The surname Korstad is most common in Norway, where it is the 146th most common surname, but it can also be found in Sweden, the United States, Canada, and other countries.
