Why was Fort Victoria built

Fort Victoria was built as a military outpost and trading center to control the strategically important intersection of the Nile and the Zimbabwean border and safeguard British interests in the region. The fort was named after Queen Victoria, the reigning monarch of the British Empire at the time of its construction.
