Why was la purisima built?

La Purisima was built as a mission to convert Native Americans to Catholicism. The mission was founded in 1787 by Spanish Franciscan friars and was located in what is now Lompoc, California. The mission was successful in converting many Native Americans, and it also became a center for agriculture and trade. The mission was eventually secularized in 1833, and the buildings were sold to private owners. The mission was restored in the early 20th century, and it is now a state historic park.
