What did the Mayans look like them selves?

Physical Appearance:

* Stature: Mayans were generally shorter in height than the average European, with men standing at around 150-160 cm (4'11"-5'3") and women averaging around 145-150 cm (4'9"-4'11").

* Skin Color: Mayans had a wide range of skin tones, from light brown to dark brown, and their skin was typically smooth and well-cared for.

* Hair: Mayan hair was typically dark, straight, and thick. Men often sported long hair, sometimes with a central part, while women usually wore their hair long and loose, sometimes adorned with braids, ribbons, or flowers.

* Facial Features: Mayans had broad faces with high foreheads, prominent noses, and thick, black eyebrows. Their eyes were often dark brown or black and had a distinct almond shape.

* Body Modifications: Mayans engaged in various forms of body modifications. They often practiced cranial deformation by binding their infants' heads with wooden boards to create an elongated, flattened forehead, which was considered a symbol of beauty. They also filed and inlaid their teeth with turquoise, jade, and other precious materials.

Clothing and Adornment:

* Clothing: Mayan clothing varied depending on social status, climate, and occasion. Common garments included the huipil, a tunic-like dress worn by women, and the loincloth, worn by men. These garments were often made from cotton or bark and were often decorated with elaborate patterns, embroidery, and dyes.

* Jewelry: Mayans were skilled craftsmen and produced exquisite jewelry. They crafted necklaces, bracelets, earrings, nose rings, and headdresses using materials such as gold, silver, jade, turquoise, obsidian, and pearls. Jewelry often held symbolic meanings and was used to denote status, wealth, and cultural affiliation.

* Body Paint: Mayans also used body paint to enhance their appearance and convey cultural and religious significance. They used natural pigments derived from plants, minerals, and insects to adorn their faces and bodies with intricate designs and symbols.
