Which country began explorations first?

The Portuguese were the first Europeans to begin systematic exploration of the world's oceans, starting in the early 15th century. Under the patronage of Prince Henry the Navigator, Portuguese explorers such as Vasco da Gama and Bartolomeu Dias ventured into the Atlantic Ocean and around the coast of Africa in search of new trade routes and opportunities for expansion. Their accomplishments would pave the way for further European exploration and the eventual Age of Discovery.
