answers Question 1

LETTER D

The March on Rome took place on October 28, 1922, when thousands of fascists from all over Italy made their way to Rome to pressure Italian King Victor Emmanuel III to nominate Benito Mussolini, leader of the National Fascist Party, Italian Prime Minister. From 30 to 40 thousand fascists positioned themselves on the outskirts of the Italian capital and entered the city. At that time, Mussolini assumed the role of prime minister.

Question 2

LETER B

With pressure on King Victor Emmanuel III, the then prime minister, Luigi Facta, was dismissed from his post. Luigi Facta wrote, during the March on Rome, a document for the king to authorize the decree of a state of emergency so that he could summon the army to repress the fascists. The king, however, rejected the signing of the document, dismissed Facta and invited Mussolini to the post.

Question 3

LETER C

The rise of the fascists to power in Italy happened with the support of the royalists. A clear sign of this was that the Italian king himself invited Mussolini to assume the position of prime minister. The support of the royalists was of great importance as they represented one of the main groups in Italy.

Question 4

LETER A

Fascists sought support from monarchists, the Church and industrialists to ascend politically in Italy. Mussolini realized that the rise of his party depended on the support of these groups and, to that end, he sought to combat the violence of the black shirt gangs.
