Chickasaw houses, known as "thatched-roof houses," typically featured rectangular or square structures made of wooden frames covered with woven reeds, grass, or palmetto leaves. The roofs had a steep slope and extended beyond the walls, providing shade and helping to keep the interior cool. These houses often had raised platforms to elevate them above the ground and were organized in villages with public buildings, such as temples and council houses, at the center. Inside the houses, there were sleeping platforms, storage areas, and hearths for cooking and heating.
