Historical story

What were claims?

Claims are statements made by a plaintiff or a prosecutor in a legal proceeding. They set out the facts that the plaintiff or prosecutor alleges to be true, and on which they base their case.

In a civil case, the plaintiff's claims will typically seek to recover damages from the defendant, while in a criminal case, the prosecutor's claims will seek to convict the defendant of a crime.

Claims must be supported by evidence, which can include witness testimony, documentary evidence, and physical evidence. The strength of a claim will depend on the amount and quality of the evidence that supports it.
