Historical story

What did Anne of Cleves smell like?

Anne of Cleves' scent is not recorded in any historical documents, so it is not possible to determine what she smelled like. However, we know that many members of the Tudor court used strong herbs and spices to mask body odor, so it is likely that Anne would have done the same. Some common scents were rosewater, lavender, mint, thyme, rosemary, nutmeg, cinnamon, cardamom, and ambergris.
