What did William prescott do?

William Prescott (February 20, 1726—October 13, 1795) was an American military officer and politician who made his notable achievements in the American Revolutionary War.

Military service

- Colonel William Prescott led American troops against overwhelming British force of over 2,000 men commanded by General Robert Pigot during Battle of Bunker hill on June 17, 1775 (when Americans successfully halted pigot's forces three times before running out of ammunition - 450 British soldiers killed 828 wounded during those attempts and only 140 Americans killed, 271 wounded - British won but battle showed world that a militia of citizens of free nation could fight as fiercely and effectively as professional soldies)

- Prescott had previously led the troops on April 19 against British expedition to take military stores - again British outnumbered him more than two to one in numbers and again managed to stop them (8 killed from both sides as Americans successfully halted British and their Native American forces in an ambush-type fighting - British did take the town after two hours of firing but with little military gains) .
