Vallabhbhai did his schooling in his village school. Being not satisfied with the school education, Patel started doing self-study by bringing books to his home. His self-study was of such a high order that the teachers were amazed to hear the questions asked by him. Soon Vallabhbhai came to be known as the most brilliant student of the village. Vallabhbhai was a very self-respecting student and did not worry about getting opposed by anyone.

Once it was made mandatory in the school that students have to buy books from the school itself. Sardar opposed this rule and gathered the students and made them agree that any student, Will not buy books from school. Due to this protest the school remained closed for 5-6 days. In the end the school management gave up and the requirement of buying books from the school was abolished.

When Vallabhbhai was in class VI, a teacher beat up a student so hard that the student cried out in pain. Vallabhbhai opposed that teacher. When the teacher was also adamant, Vallabhbhai gathered all the students and got them to strike.

On this the principal investigated the incident and banned the teacher as he would not beat any student so hard in future. Only after this the classes could start in the school.
