Photo of the day:The cannabis marches that were legal until 1913

The frame, taken 35 years ago today, captures two protesters at a rally for the legalization of cannabis in San Francisco, California on July 13, 1984.

The use of cannabis was legal in America until the beginning of the 20th century. However, it was banned in California in 1913 and slowly all states followed the same policy.

Today, ten US states including California, Colorado and the state of Washington beyond the federal capital have already legalized the use of soft drugs for recreational purposes, and 33 states including the capital Washington have legalized therapeutic use, but it remains illegal at the federal level and is placed on the same level as hard drugs and heroin.

A recent Pew Research Center poll found that 62% of Americans favor full legalization of the plant.
