At the time when the background of the military campaigns of the Turks in Bihar was being formed, there was political instability in the region. By the end of the 11th century, the persecution of the Palas was widespread in Bihar. During the reign of Rampal ( 1097- 1098) the Karnat kingdom of Tirhut emerged, whose founder was Nyayadev a great ruler (1098-1133 AD). His son Gangdev was an able administrator ( 1133 - 1187 AD).

Its capital was Simraogarh, which is now located in the northeastern region of the Terai of Nepal. After Gangdev, his son Narasimha Dev ascended the throne in 1187 AD and ruled for 38 years. Narasimha Dev's struggle continued with the military rulers of Bengal. For this reason Narasimha Dev cooperated with the Turks.

When Bakhtiyar Khilji's invasions took place in the region of Bihar, Narasimha Dev also satisfied him by giving him a tribute or gift. At that time the authority of Narasimha Dev was spread over the Triangle and Darbhanga areas. In the 13th century, continuous military campaigns were carried out in the criminals Daura area of Bihar. Contemporary Tibetan traveler Dharmaswamin mentions the unsuccessful campaign of the Ottoman general Tugan in the region. At that time Tirhut was ruled by Ramsing Singh Deo (1225-1276 AD).

Ram Singh Dev's son and successor Shakti Dev Singh was a weak ruler. But his son Harsinghdev got more prestige than Nyayadev. The Sultans of Delhi had a contact center with the Karnat rulers.

At that time the ruler of Tirhut was Harsinghdev. He could not face the attack of the Ottoman army and fled to the Terai of Nepal and due to this the areas of northern and central Bihar were merged. But Harisinghdev (1279- 1325) remained active as a great social reformer.

At the same time, the development of register management took place. As a result a new class of registers was organized. The compositions related to memory and essay were also written in large numbers in this period and the form of Maithil society which has remained till the present period, its characteristics are related to this period.
