April 21:dies natalis Romae or the 2769th anniversary of the founding of Rome

According to tradition, on a day like today, April 21, Romulus traced a furrow in the ground. Inside was defined the sacred space (pomerium ) of what would be a new city:Rome. His brother Remo's brother crossed the line, which was synonymous with raping him, and was shot down nicely by a bodyguard of his brother (according to Ovid, Fasti IV.809), or at the hands of Romulus himself (according to Livy, I.7). At the end of the Republic, the growing urbanization of the city invited the abandonment of the more eminently agricultural celebrations, including the Parilia, held on April 21 in honor of Pares, the divinity of shepherds. Consequently, this festivity changed meaning and was associated with the event of the founding brothers, thus generating the tradition of associating this date with the birth of the city:dies natalis Romae , Rome's birthday!

And, as many of you know, in Awakening Ferro Ancient and Medieval we have already dedicated a few issues to Rome. Don't you know them? We review them below:

Also in the Special issues Rome has been the protagonist with two issues dedicated to the Roman Legions and another to mercenaries in the ancient world.

Finally, the newest header of Desperta Ferro, Archeology and History , has also not missed the opportunity to dedicate an issue to this period, specifically No. 2, The underworld in Rome. In August 2016, the other side of the coin will be released, number 8, Rich in Rome .
