What did Skara Brae houses look like?

The houses at Skara Brae were generally rectangular in shape and built of drystone walls. The walls were made from slabs of stone, which were stacked on top of each other without the use of mortar. The houses had a single entrance, which was usually located on the south side of the building. The roofs were made of thatch, which was supported by wooden beams.

The houses were divided into several rooms, which were used for different purposes. The main room was usually used as a living area, and it contained a hearth and a bed. Other rooms were used for storage or as workshops.

The houses were also equipped with a system of drainage, which was used to channel away rainwater. The drains were made from stone slabs, and they were covered with soil.
