Where Have scientists found evidence of Neolithic farming villages?

Catal Huyuk

* Located in southern Anatolia (present-day Turkey)

* Founded around 7500 BCE

* One of the earliest farming settlements in the world

* Home to a population of around 5,000 people

* Evidence of agriculture, including wheat, barley, and lentils

* Also evidence of animal husbandry, including cattle, sheep, and goats

* Houses were made of mud brick and had flat roofs

* People buried their dead under the floors of their houses

* Catal Huyuk was abandoned around 5700 BCE, possibly due to a change in climate.

Jericho

* Located in the West Bank

* Founded around 9000 BCE

* One of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world

* Home to a population of around 2,500 people

* Evidence of agriculture, including wheat, barley, and dates

* Also evidence of animal husbandry, including cattle, sheep, and goats

* Houses were made of mud brick and had flat roofs

* People buried their dead in caves or under the floors of their houses

* Jericho was destroyed several times over the course of its history, but it was always rebuilt.

Ali Kosh

* Located in the Khuzestan Province, southwestern Iran.

* Flourished from 7200 to 6400 BCE.

* Evidence of rectangular structures, a variety of domestic crafts and agriculture, including cereal grains, legumes and livestock such as sheep, goats and cattle.
