How was the sarcophagus constructed?

The sarcophagus was carved from a single block of pinkish-red granite. The lid of the sarcophagus was originally attached to the receptacle with dowel pins. The interior of the sarcophagus is smooth, and the exterior was sculpted with a variety of scenes from the life and funeral of Tutankhamun. The sarcophagus is decorated with scenes from the Book of the Dead, which is a collection of ancient Egyptian religious texts. The scenes include images of the gods Anubis, Horus, and Hathor, as well as Tutankhamun himself. The sarcophagus also features images of the four sons of Horus, who protected the deceased pharaoh in the afterlife.
