Zhang Shan, sniper

Zhang Shan is a former Olympic shooting champion. At the 1992 Summer Olympics, she won the gold medal in the mixed event, an event subsequently suppressed.

Zhang Shan was born on March 23, 1968 in Nanchong, Sichuan Province. As a teenager, she began to train in shooting and joined the Sichuan shooting team in 1984 and then the national shooting team in 1989.

In 1989 and 1990, she won the World Shooting Championships and then participated in the Barcelona Olympics in 1992. The event was mixed and Zhang Shan won the gold medal ahead of seven men, beating the world record for the event. . In 1996, she could not defend her title since the event was only open to men. In 2000, the shooting events at the Olympic Games not only became single-sex, but were also different (distance, number of shots, etc.), making it impossible to compare the results of women and those of men.

Zhang Shan remains active in shooting competitions; she is now in sports management.
