Chateaubriand Francois René de (1768 -1848)

He began a military career without conviction, before leaving for America. He returned to France in 1800 and became Bonaparte's plenipotentiary minister, leaving his post after the execution of the Duc d'Enghien. He returned to political life again in 1814, but hostile to the July Monarchy, he retired. He also participates in the council which condemns Ney to death.
