Do-it-yourself charcoal toothpaste from the early 1900s:Original Recipe

Vintage advertising. The charcoal toothpaste whitened the teeth

After a long time I go back to posting on Pills of History natural recipes of health and beauty taken from To be beautiful ( Sonzogno, Milan, 1906 ), a manual well known by ladies of the early 20th century.

The following is the recipe for making charcoal toothpaste at home, an ingredient with a strong sanitizing and whitening power.

I quote verbatim:

"The carbon-based pastes, which do not have a pleasant appearance, are excellent from the point of view of effectiveness.

Here is the composition of one of these pastes.

You will obtain a more consistent paste with honey, according to the following formula:

Coal in powder gr. 30

White honey gr. 30

Powdered sugar gr. 30

China powder gr. 15

Essence of mint drops 5

If you prefer, you can replace the mint essence with another essence ".

It seems that this charcoal toothpaste greatly helped our grandmothers and great-grandmothers to show off a dazzling smile.
