General Condition

The historic hill is located on the east side of the old Ranong City Hall on “Khao Niwet” in the middle of Ranong city. It looks like a mound about 50x30 meters in size, about 2 meters higher than the floor of the City Hall and about 10 meters higher than Luwang Road.

The historic hill is the area that used to be the location of the Rattanarangsan Throne Hall. Built in 1890 and demolished in 1964 to build a new town hall.

The area that is the royal monument of King Chulalongkorn It is the place where His Highness used to plant a pair of tamarind trees in 1890 when he was visiting Ranong.

The construction of the royal monument was made by Mr. Santi Phiromphak and his family who donated 600,000 baht in construction funds. Mr. Somporn Kulwanich, Governor of Ranong Province, presided over the foundation stone laying on September 20, 1991 Chamnong Chalermchat, the next provincial governor, was the chairman of Thetong on 16 July 1992 and invited a portrait of King Chulalongkorn to be enshrined on the royal monument. On the mound enshrines the royal monument of King Chulalongkorn. on a high rectangular mortar base decorated with stone slabs In front of the base is attached a metal sign inscribed on the history of King Chulalongkorn. The monument faces the southeast. The surrounding floor is covered with tiles. Foreground both left and right There are 2 large tamarind trees (1 on each side, no information on whether it was planted or not). In front of the tamarind tree is a granite sign engraved with Thai, Chinese and English characters, one on each side carved about the tamarind tree that His Highness planted. Beside the stone slab, there is a cannon placed on a cement base, one on each side.

next to the front (Southeast side) is a brick stair with 5 steps leading up to the royal monument. It is said to be the remains of an old staircase from the time the throne was built. (In the back, there is still a modern staircase leading up to the royal monument, there is one more staircase)

Further down the stairs, at the very front, there is another granite slab embroidered in the center. The front is carved with Chinese patterned plant pots and flora. The back is engraved with an elephant at the top. and Thai, Chinese and English characters below.

The area surrounding the royal monument has been renovated to have a beautiful shady landscape. As for the general condition of the area on the hills, most of them are the location of government offices.
