The remains of a small 3,700-year-old pyramid discovered in Egypt

Recent archaeological excavations have revealed the presence of an unknown pyramid south of Cairo.

The entrance corridor to the new pyramid discovered at Dahshur, south of Cairo, Egypt.

Blocks of perfectly cut limestone flush with the sand, the beginning of a corridor sinking into the ground... The partial remains of the internal structure of an ancient 3700-year-old pyramid have just been discovered south of Cairo, in Egypt ! The funerary monument is believed to date from the XIIIth dynasty (1782-1650 BC), almost 1000 years after the famous "great pyramids" of the IVth dynasty (2561-1450 BC) which adorn their imposing presence the Giza plateau for 4500 years.

It was unearthed near the necropolis of Dahshur, not far from the rhomboidal pyramid erected by Pharaoh Snefrou (2575-2551 BC), founder of the 4th dynasty and father of the sovereign Cheops. According to the Egyptian Ministry of Antiquities, which made the announcement, Egyptian archaeologists discovered "a corridor leading inside the pyramid, extended by a ramp ", a granite lintel, as well as a blackened alabaster block of 15 cm x 17 cm covered with hieroglyphs.

Scan Pyramids' work on the Great Pyramid of Cheops

Zahi Hawass, former Egyptian Minister of Antiquities who spoke about the find, hopes that an inscription will identify the owner of the place. This is not the first time that such remains of pyramids have been unearthed. More than a hundred have already been unearthed in Egypt. Not to mention those regularly discovered in Sudan, the other country of the pyramids.

Constructions that always fascinate. Because of the unresolved enigma posed by the construction techniques used for their erection. Since 2015, the scientific teams of Scan Pyramids , are for example carrying out important research in the great pyramid of Cheops where unknown cavities have been detected. Works also followed exclusively by our magazine Sciences et Avenir . Other pyramids, those of the XIIth Dynasty (1991-1782 BC) like those of kings Amenemhat II or Sesostris III, had already been discovered in the past, to the east of this same necropolis of Dahshur .
